Double Dead was decent

I picked the Double Dead Tour for something different. The combo of the graveyard and the vaults was good value for the price. Our guide was knowledgeable, though sometimes a bit hard to hear when the group got really spread out. The exclusive access to Covenanters Prison was a nice touch, made it feel a bit more special. Booking online was straightforward, and the e-ticket worked fine. The tour felt a little rushed in some parts, like they were trying to stick to a tight schedule, but overall it was a solid experience.

Still my favorite Edinburgh tour

This was my third time doing a tour with City of the Dead, and they're consistently great. This time I took the Underground City of the Dead Tour. I've done the Haunted Graveyard Tour before, and while that's classic, the vaults tour really gives you a different vibe. Our guide was as engaging as the previous ones I had, really brought the history to life. The booking process is always smooth, and I appreciate that they offer a student discount, which I used for this one. It's nice knowing what to expect in terms of quality and professionalism. It's why I keep coming back whenever I'm in Edinburgh.

Hey, planning a trip with a few friends. Do they offer group discounts if there's like, 6 or 7 of us? Or is it only for massive school groups?

S Sofia T. 1 week ago
Yeah, they do. I think it kicks in for 6 or more people. The discount usually applies automatically when you select enough tickets.

My family got a discount for 8 of us last year. It wasn't a huge amount, maybe 10-15% off total, but every little bit helps!

Thinking of booking the Double Dead Tour for a trip next month. Anyone know if it's too intense for a 10-year-old? My kid loves spooky stuff but not like, nightmares-for-a-week spooky.

My cousin took her 9-year-old on one of the tours and said it was fine. They do mention some pretty dark history but the guides are good at keeping it more exciting than genuinely terrifying for younger ones. Maybe check the specific tour details for age recommendations, though.

Yeah, I took my niece on the regular graveyard one last summer and she was totally into it. The vaults can be a bit claustrophobic for some kids, but not necessarily scary. They're pretty good about not going overboard.

What's the deal if it rains during the tour? Are they still on? Don't want to pay for a tour if it's gonna be miserable.

M Matt H. 2 days ago
They still run if it rains. Edinburgh weather, you know? A lot of it is indoors anyway once you get to the vaults.

Unless it's like, a hurricane, the tours definitely go on. Just bring a waterproof jacket and maybe an umbrella. The vaults are dry though!

Considering Mercat Tours vs City of the Dead for a ghost tour. Has anyone done both and can recommend one over the other? I really want to get into the vaults.

R Richard Flores 2 weeks ago
City of the Dead is the only one that gets you into the Covenanters Prison and certain parts of the vaults that others don't. If exclusive access is your thing, go with them.

I've done both! Mercat is good, but City of the Dead just feels more authentic, especially with the South Bridge Vaults access. Plus, their guides usually have some pretty intense stories. Felt more genuinely spooky to me.

i'm a student and wondering if they have a discount? tried looking for a promo code box but didn't see one.

H Hannah Robinson 2 weeks ago
They do have student discounts! You usually just select a 'student ticket' option when you're booking. No code needed.

S Stephanie Walker 2 weeks ago
Yeah, if you're buying online, you pick the student ticket type. Just make sure you have your student ID with you on the day, they might ask for it.
